Evidence-based Public Health

5th Summer School

Speaker

Eva Rehfuess Prof Eva Rehfuess holds the Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research at the Institute of Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology, Pettenkofer School of Public Health, LMU Munich. She is a founding member of Cochrane Public Health Europe and the German Coordinator of the Collaboration for Evidence-Based Healthcare and Public Health in Africa (CEBHA+). Nine years of working for the World Health Organization inspired her keen interest in methods for evidence-based public health. Much of her research relates to the evaluation of complex interventions in complex systems, in particular as applied to household air pollution, child health and other health concerns in low- and middle-income countries.
Daniel Pope Prof Daniel Pope is a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology in the Department of Public Health and Policy at The University of Liverpool. He leads the Energy, Air Pollution and Health Research Theme as part of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Policy Research on Social Determinants of Health. He has carried out research investigating the impact of improved cookstoves on exposure to HAP in Sudan, Kenya and Nepal and of clean fuel (ethanol) on exposure to HAP and health outcomes in Madagascar. Daniel has substantial experience in the conduct of systematic reviews and meta-analysis and has led review work (i) contributing to the evidence base for the Global Burden of Disease in relation to household air pollution; and (ii) WHO Air Quality Guidelines for household fuel combustion. Daniel’s main research interests in this field are (i) HAP and maternal and child health and (ii) upscaling the availability of clean energy in LMICs to reduce HAP and improve health (reducing health inequalities). Daniel leads on epidemiology and statistics modules as part of the Masters in Public Health course run by The Department of Public Health and Policy at The University of Liverpool
Jacob Burns Mr Jacob Burns is part of the Research Group on Evidence-Based Public Health at the Institute of Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology, Pettenkofer School of Public Health LMU Munich. His research and teaching interests encompass systematic review and quasi-experimental evaluation methods in the field of public health, both how they have been employed in the past and how they may be improved in the future. He has conducted research on a range of public health issues, and is most interested in environmental health policies, such as those aiming to reduce outdoor air pollution
Ani Movsisyan Dr Ani Movsisyan is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology, Pettenkofer School of Public Health, LMU Munich. Her main research interests include development, implementation, adaptation, and evaluation of complex population health interventions, complex systems thinking, and use of evidence in policy-making. She has conducted methodological research supporting a complexity perspective in evidence synthesis and guideline development. As part of the ADAPT study, Ani is working on systematic and scoping reviews regarding intervention adaptation to new contexts.
Lisa Pfadenhauer Dr Lisa Pfadenhauer is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology, Pettenkofer School of Public Health, LMU Munich and a Public Health Program Associate at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta (USA). Her main research interest lies in co-production of research and knowledge and its implementation into policy and practice. Within CEBHA+, Lisa is implementing and evaluating an integrated knowledge translation approach across five Sub-saharan African countries.
Kerstin Sell Dr Kerstin Sell is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology, Pettenkofer School of Public Health, LMU Munich. She has a keen research interest in knowledge translation, evaluation of complex public health interventions and mixed-methods in primary research and systematic reviews. Kerstin is currently working on a cross-country programme evaluation of integrated knowledge translation within CEBHA+.
Jan Stratil Dr Jan Stratil is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology, Pettenkofer School of Public Health, LMU Munich.
David Taylor-Robinson Prof David Taylor-Robinson is the Professor of Public Health and Policy at the Institute of Population Health Sciences, University of Liverpool, a MRC Clinician Scientist; and Honorary Consultant in Public Health at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with expertise in public health, health inequalities, paediatrics and child health, epidemiology and statistics, and evidence synthesis.
Manfred Wildner Prof Manfred Wildner is the professor of Public Health Policy and Administration at the LMU Munich. He is heading the Bavarian State Institute for Health at the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority, which is part of the Pettenkofer School of Public Health (PSPH) of the University of Munich. He is acting as editor-in-chief of the journal „Das Gesundheitswesen“, a German-speaking Peer-reviewed journal dealing with all aspects of health care systems. His main academic activities concern Public Health and the German Public Health Service and transfering knowledge into action.
